Role Summary The Director Engineering sets the long-term strategy and oversees financial performance for the Engineering department at Horizon Air. As a people leader, this role leads a team of managers and engineers to execute repairs, alterations, configuration control, and fleet enhancements. Successful leadership in this role requires an unwavering commitment to safety and compliance, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. In addition, team building and collaboration skills are required to work with internal customers throughout the airline. Key Duties • Direct the Fleet and AOG Engineering teams. Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines. • Lead the engineering team in improving the mechanical reliability of the Horizon Air fleet, through data-driven decision making and adjustment to the maintenance program. • Shape the culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of positive behaviors. • Direct and ensure safe, compliant, and reliable aircraft engineering operations while maintaining competitive costs. • Maintain an expert knowledge of regulations, company policies, and procedures. • Partner with the Engineering Support functions to ensure adherence to all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and Company policies/procedures. • Ensure areas of responsibility meet Company quality expectations through continuous review and improvement, and active participation in the Continuous Analysis and Surveillance (CAS) Program. • Foster an environment of innovation and creativity in the development of solutions to improve mechanical reliability. • Oversee the efforts to use data mining and analysis techniques to identify opportunities for improvements and develop strategic projects to realize those improvements. • Review any product deficiencies with the supplier, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or Vendor to ensure they compensate or improve the product for the benefit of the Company. • Ensure potential changes to the fleet are appropriately evaluated, and the disposition is documented. • Monitor progress of accepted changes through the implementation steps. • Represent the Maintenance and Engineering Division in cross-divisional meetings regarding equipment changes to the fleet. • Serve as a member of the Reliability Review and Continuous Analysis and Surveillance Program (CAS) Boards. • Oversee the structured evaluation of manufacturer suggested engineering projects. • Own the responsibility for the Engineering budget and look for opportunities to increase efficiency and lower costs. • Represent Horizon Air in industry meetings, conferences, working groups, and suppliers to maintain contact with the industry, and keep abreast of any product or system improvements. Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required • 7 years of engineering experience at an airline operator, aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or equivalent engineering organization. • 4 years of leadership experience with at least two of those years directly leading people. • BS degree in Engineering or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of a degree. • Familiar with FAA Regulatory requirements, documents, and compliance processes. • Outstanding communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and presentation skills, with a demonstrated commitment to clear and transparent communication. • Unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and compliance. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). • Working knowledge of fiscal control systems, staffing processes, safety and security compliance. • Proven ability to motivate employees and improve and enhance group dynamics as well as use tact in communicating with others with the ability to constructively resolve problems. • High school diploma or equivalent. • Authorization to work in the U.S. • Minimum age of 18. Preferred • Strong data analysis experience including statistical methods. • Experience with the TRAX maintenance tracking software. • Advanced Excel / MS Access analysis skills.
