Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS Must-Have: Acute care experience Cardiac and respiratory experience Description: The facility may request a 90-day emergency license. The unit has 20 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3, with a maximum of 1:4 for medical overflow. Common diagnoses include cardiac issues, respiratory conditions, alcohol withdrawal, and renal failure. RNs are required to titrate drips at a minimal level. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Cardizem, heparin, and amiodarone. There is a charge nurse and house supervisor present. Nurse aides are available on this unit with ratios of 1:7 during the day and 1:11 at night. Respiratory therapy equipment available includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula. The unit has telemetry capabilities with monitor techs, and RNs are responsible for reading strips. This position requires the flexibility to float to ICU or Med/Surg as needed. Scrubs may be of any color/design except purple for tops, and any color except purple for pants. The facility has a holiday requirement of one major and one minor holiday. There is a call or standby requirement for low census, with a maximum response time of 45 minutes if called in.
