strong leadership! Position Summary The Medication Assistant (MA)
acts as a caregiver, delivering resident-focused nursing care and
daily living support to assigned individuals under the guidance of
a charge nurse. This role requires knowledge of age-appropriate
care tailored to the physical and psychological needs of residents,
as outlined in their care plans. Responsibilities include:
Assisting with essential health care tasks such as bathing,
toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and recording vital
signs. Providing psycho-social support and personal care to
residents. Helping residents with mobility, including transferring,
repositioning, and walking, using appropriate techniques and
equipment. Administering prescribed medications as directed by a
licensed nurse, adhering to state regulations. Documenting care
outcomes, medication administration, and any changes in resident
conditions. Collecting non-invasive body fluid samples and vital
signs. Offering housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean
living environments. Supporting wellness and recreational programs,
encouraging resident participation. Qualifications A high school
diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) is preferred but not
mandatory. Minimum age of 18 is preferred. Previous clinical or
nursing assistant experience is advantageous. Completion of annual
department-specific competency testing and maintenance of
continuing education credits is required, with a minimum of 12
hours annually based on state mandates. Must hold all necessary
department-specific certifications. A valid driver’s license and
auto insurance may be required in certain cases. State-Specific
Requirements Iowa: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
is required, along with successful completion of a state-approved
Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course post-CNA certification.
Minnesota: Nursing assistant certification is necessary, including
completion of a 75-hour course and registration with the Minnesota
Nursing Assistant Registry, along with a state-approved Trained
Medication Assistant course. North Dakota: Requires CNA
certification and completion of a state-approved Certified
Medication Aide/Assistant course. Medication Assistant I
certification is needed for Assisted Living or Basic Care
facilities, while Medication Assistant II certification is required
for skilled nursing facilities. South Dakota: Successful completion
of the state-approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course is
mandatory, with maintenance of CMA certification. Benefits Our
