Sr. Azure Architect/Engineer

Job Description:

The Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Azure Architect/Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert and help drive the long-term strategy for the Cloud Platforms team. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership to our Cloud Center of Excellence, create Azure landing zones, understand cloud costs and FinOps, recommend infrastructure reliability best practices based on established Cloud Infrastructure best practices, and consult with application teams to ensure optimal cloud solutions. This role requires a combination of hands-on engineering and architectural expertise. Prior experience in implementing Azure Cloud infrastructure platforms and related certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert is required for this position. Multi-Cloud experience in implementing other cloud infrastructure platforms such as GCP & AWS is a plus. Key Duties Part of a Cloud Center of Excellence that provides technical guidance and leadership in Azure to ensure best practices in cloud architecture and operations are being followed. The position also requires engagement in hands-on engineering tasks, including the deployment, configuration, and management of Azure resources. Recommend and implement infrastructure best practices based on the Azure Well-Architected Framework (WAF) Reliability: Implement strategies for high availability, disaster recovery, and fault tolerance. Security: Apply best practices for identity management, data protection, and network security. Cost Optimization: Optimize resource usage and manage costs effectively. Operational Excellence: Develop processes for monitoring, logging, and incident response. Performance Efficiency: Design solutions for optimal performance and scalability. Expert-level proficiency in Terraform and creating Infrastructure as Code (IaC) landing zones and terraform modules. This includes experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub. Expert level knowledge of Azure core infrastructure concepts including networking, security, load balancing, DNS, Express Route, Private Endpoints, Compute, Storage, Disaster Recovery, Security, and Monitoring. Strong understanding of core Azure services and concepts such as Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Front Door, API Management, Service Bus, Azure Functions, networking (VWAN, DNS, express route, private endpoints), and monitoring. Familiarity with Azure data platform technologies including Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, and Medallion Architecture. Proven experience in platform engineering technologies such as Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, and containerization. This includes experience with Kubernetes concepts such as Operator/Controller patterns, Cluster API, and multi-cluster. Consultation experience advising application teams how to design and deploy scalable, secure, and efficient cloud solutions. Required Job-Specific Skills & Education Extensive experience (7 years minimum) in Azure infrastructure architecture and software engineering. The position requires expertise in both architecture and the ability to perform hands-on engineering tasks at a senior level. Proven experience advising and implementing Azure WAF best practices for reliability, security, cost optimization, operational excellence, and performance efficiency. Expert in creating Infrastructure as Code (IaC) landing zones and modules, with experience in CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Terraform Cloud. Expert knowledge in Azure core infrastructure, services, data platforms, and platform engineering concepts and technologies. Substantial consultation experience advising teams on designing and deploying scalable, secure, and efficient cloud solutions. Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert is also required; additional Azure, IaC, or AI certifications are a plus. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred Experience: Multi-Cloud experience in implementing other Cloud infrastructure platforms such as GCP & AWS. The preference is GCP as it is also part of our enterprise platform and strategy. Experience leveraging Azure Open AI services to enhance cloud solutions and drive innovation, including: Creating AI agents and chatbots to meet business needs, including customer service and automated support. Integrating AI capabilities into cloud applications to improve functionality and user experience. Utilizing machine learning models to optimize cloud operations and performance. Implementing natural language processing (NLP) solutions to automate and streamline business processes.
