The Benton County Health Department is seeking a Peer Specialist to join the Housing Team. Peer Recovery Specialists are people who have been successful in the recovery process who help others experiencing similar situations. Through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, peer support workers help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse.Job SummaryThis position provides supportive services to individuals in the process of obtaining or maintaining housing. The Housing Team is co-located with Mental Health Treatment, Substance Use Treatment, Dental and Primary Care. Workload is both independent and as part of an integrated team comprised of other behavioral health professionals. A portion of this position includes providing outreach to community partners.The ideal candidate would have lived experience with Mental Health Treatment, Houselessness and/or the ability to navigate community resources; feel comfortable meeting new individuals in the community and in the office; and is interested in being part of a team. This part-time benefited position is at .5 FTE (20 hours / week)Click here for a complete list of the duties, responsibilities and physical requirements of this position.First Review of Applications will be on 1/14/2022Minimum QualificationsThe following minimum qualifications are required for this position: One-year Technical Training Certificate or Degree beyond High School; AND1 year of related health services experience.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.Special Requirements: Approved Peer Specialist training certification.Must be an individual in recovery from a mental illness.Valid Oregon driver's license. This position requires driving and may require use of a personal vehicle. Hiring is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.Benton County requires all Health Services and Clinic employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series or have an approved exception to the requirement due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief. Successful candidates for this position must submit vaccination documentation or be approved for an exception prior to their first day of employment.
