Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill 15 part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) SET Specialist positions for Recreational Sports at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

SET Specialists work as paraprofessional staff representing the Operations professional team and other department administrators in Rec Sports. SET staff have a high level of responsibility to ensure that all programs and facilities are operating according to department risk management standards and program/area-specific policies, guidelines, and expectations. Additionally, all Rec Sports employees are responsible for facilitating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for participants and staff members at all times. Special Events Team Members report directly to the Scheduling and Events Coordinator and Senior Events Associate.

    Position Duties

    Position Details, Duties and Responsibilities
    • Provide material support (using event inventory as necessary per event)
    • Coordinate the setup/takedown of facilities
    • Crowd control of all events/tournaments/camp participants/spectators and daily patrons ensuring uninterrupted safety per event/activity
    • Facility setup and maintenance in any Rec Sports venue, including all equipment provided by DRS
    • On-site emergency response utilizing First Aid and Emergency Response materials, including the AED
    • Custodial duties (refer to rental contracts for specific responsibilities)
    • Work with vendors before/during/after each event to maintain exemplary flow and ensure that vendors are able to complete their goals while within facility standards of care
    • Set up and take down event equipment as needed
    • Support event customers; mediate conflicts or requests and involve Supervisor if needed
    • Monitor items entering and exiting the building
    • Monitor safety throughout DRS facilities
    • Enforce all DRS policies and regulations
    • Work collaboratively with After Dark Committee staff members during After Dark Events
    • Work Start Nights, After Darks and Rec Night as assigned based on availability
    • Successful candidates must report to Dixon Recreation Center for training in March or April on a date TBD
    • Submit work availability for the following events: After Dark, SANP's, WVC , Rec Night and START
    • Other duties as assigned by the Scheduling and Events Coordinator or Senior Events Associate

      Additional Required Qualifications
      • First Aid, CPR / AED for the Healthcare Provider and DRS Bloodborne Pathogens certifications is required before employment begins

        Preferred (Special) Qualifications
        • Previous customer service experience
        • Previous cash handling and credit card experience
        • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
        • Awareness and appreciation of individual uniqueness and diversity
        • Excellent oral and written communication skills

          Working Conditions / Work Schedule

          Anticipated hours per week: 10 hours

          Period of Employment: One academic year (continuing employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a 30 day probationary period and satisfactory job performance as evaluated by immediate supervisor). 10-20 hours per week. Early morning, late night and weekend hours may be required.

          Compensation: Student employees are paid an hourly wage consistent with the OSU Student Employment Pay Rate Guidelines. The Department of Recreational Sports identifies pay ranges base upon job duties, level of responsibility and complexity of the work to be performed.
