The Electrical Maintenance Engineer must have knowledge of industry
standards, local electrical and building codes, and the ability to
apply knowledge to maintenance and testing of campus electrical
systems. Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering
drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic
wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand
tools and power tools
- Maintain and repair large motors, equipment, and control
systems in campus factory areas
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components,
using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a
breakdown and correct the problem
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other
components
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to
identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair,
and to ensure compliance with codes
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment
could be hazardous
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in
electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices
such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure system
safety
- Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location
of wiring, fixtures, and equipment and to ensure conformance to job
specifications, building and safety codes
- Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction
equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment
including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment,
such as motors
- Perform business management duties such as maintaining records
and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and
equipment
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand
tools and power tools
- Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and
specifications.
- Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house
electrical switches or outlets.
- Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials
and services
- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a
job
- Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining
when and what kind of maintenance is needed
- Plans, schedules, and oversees regularly scheduled testing and
preventive maintenance of electrical and instrumentation
systems
- Performs routine and complex maintenance and repairs on various
electrical equipment
- Responsible for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous
materials
- Performs minor building maintenance as needed
- Operate a variety of hand and powered tools
- Mechanical repairs to cabinets or brackets holding
instrumentation or other electrical systems
- Minor mechanical maintenance and installation for general
building repairs
- Minor electrical inspection, and repairs for general building
maintenance
- Minor electrical testing, troubleshooting, inspections and
repairs for general building work
Administer and Schedule Work:
- Assists in preparing project and departmental budgets
- Monitors inventory and initiates requests for supplies,
materials, and equipment
- Keeps daily reports, records, rounds and reading for assigned
equipment
- Schedules and coordinates own work in cooperation with other
Technicians
Knowledge and Personal skills:
The Electrical Maintenance Engineer must consistently
demonstrate:
- The ability to work cooperatively with other technicians,
supervisors, engineers, and managers
- Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions, and act
accordingly
- Ability to draft and follow written practices, maintenance, and
operating procedures
- Good judgment and decision making
- Strong attention to details, demonstrated experience reviewing
procedural documents for completeness and accuracy
- Troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem solving skills
- Team building skills
- Active learning - understands the implications of new
information for both current and future problem-solving and
decision-making
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses,
repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer
and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, and
meeting quality standards for customer satisfaction
- Critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify the
strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or
approaches to problems
- Ability to do complex problem solving, identifying complex
problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate
options and implement solutions.
- Sound decision making skills
- Computer skills including the ability to operate Corporate
email, spreadsheets, word processing, engineering drawing databases
at a highly proficient level
- Capable of working independently and exhibit effective time
management skills
- Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed for
business purposes, or to be called-in to work in the event of
emergency or business needs.
- Contributes recommendations and suggestion for work method
improvements, safety, materials, and tools
- Personal attributes should include honesty, trustworthiness,
respect for others, flexibility, and sound workplace ethics
Physical Requirements:
- The Electrical Systems Technician may spend extended hours
working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in
awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and
strain.
- Perform strenuous labor and general maintenance
activities.
- The Electrical Technician will be required to regularly lift up
to 50 lbs., carry and adjust heavy objects.
- Foreseeably the position will come in contact with sharp, hot,
and very cold supplies equipment, and parts.
- The Sensory demands include exposure to the smells and sounds
characteristic of an industrial work environment.
- The Electrical Technician must have the ability to safely climb
ladders, work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs
or platforms, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
- While performing the essential functions of this job the
employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger,
handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl.
Experience, Education, and Training:
- Oregon State Plant Journeyman or LME license required
- High School graduation or GED is required
- Technical College or Trade Program is preferred, Journeyman
Electrician
- Five years' experience with electrical systems working in an
Industrial setting is highly preferred
- Competency in basic mathematic skills including fractions,
addition, subtraction, division
- Skilled in use of electrical and hand held diagnostic
equipment, hand tools, power tools, and specialized tools required
to execute the position responsibilities.
- Familiar with computer equipment, and capable of operating or
learning specialized computer software systems
Proposed Salary: $35-$40/hr DOE
